I have a pair of A-III, older, and the bass seems to have faded, though there is still some little bit.  I drive them with a Bryston Amp and Preamp.

Any wisdom about getting fixed, rebuilt would be appreciated.

The reason is probably foam rot, which happens after 10-20 years. You can get the woofers refoamed by a qualified person/company or get a recone at Hirez Service (very expensive).

Never replace or throw away the old woofers. Hirez Service will need the old woofers for reconing.

I had my AIII woofers reconed through Snell about 2 years ago. They had the both  units for a complete check up.  These things are amazing.

I just drove my AIII's up to Hirez for a reconditioning, reconing of the woofers.

Can you describe the difference afterwards?

I just got my AIII's back, converted to AIIIi's, with reconed woofers, new mid-ranges, and tweeters.  The difference is astonishing, not only in the bass, but in the overall smoothness.  Speakers that used to be too bright when I got them second-hand around 1990 are now as sweet as can be, thanks to Steve at Hi-Rez.

It was not inexpensive, but when you consider what you can get for what it cost, it is more than worth it.
